In early 2010 it was decided by the band that the young members of the band required new kilts. The band's stock of kilts was low and with an increase in the numbers of young members coming through to play in the band and those young members continually growing, new kilts were desperately needed. Band funds were modest at the time and would be stretched to meet the cost of this project. Young band member Ross Brown, supported by band secretary Charles Gray, made an application to YouthChex to fund the purchase of a bale of tartan material and the make up of 6 kilts for the young members of the band. The amount sought from YouthChex was £2000 towards a total project cost of £2726.00. The application was successful, and the band was awarded a YouthChex grant of £1636.25 in June 2010 for the purpose of purchasing a bale of Cleikum tartan.

Once the money was received in the band's bank account an order was duly placed in late June with Lochcarron of Scotland Ltd for the Cleikum material. By November the material had been woven and the make up of kilts could begin.Unfortunately Mother Nature intervened at this point and the snows of November, December and January prevented young band members from getting measured at Graham McGrath's Ltd for new kilts. Eventually in early 2011 two young band members were measured for kilts, Ross Brown himself and his young brother Murray. To date two kilts have been made up, and the pictures distributed about this page show Ross and Murray in both before and after kilts. Four other kilts will be made in due course as and when young band members require them thus bringing the project to a close.

The band is extremely grateful to YouthChex for awarding the band a grant of £1636.25, thus making possible the band's acquisition of new kilts for its young members.
